Lesley Bradshaw RMN

Mental Health Nurse

Lesley qualified as a Mental Health Nurse in 2010. She has worked since qualifying in a mental health inpatient unit, working initially in the community for 18 months and then working on an adult acute ward, going to the older persons unit, working alongside those with dementia and those with a ‘functional’ illness, i.e. depression and anxiety, and then finally working in an adult psychiatric inpatient unit.

Lesley’s role… to assist you and Lorna, my colleague with your mental health issues in a fully wholistic way, including emotionally, physically and spiritually. My role as I see is to be a supportive and informative one helping you understand yours or your relative’s mental health issues whether it is dementia based, anxiety and depression, psychosis or schizophrenia. I will listen and help you understand or explore what you are feeling at that time or try and answer the questions you have. I will help you develop plans for your recovery back to where you were before becoming unwell or to a place where you feel comfortable with your mental health. If you have contact with secondary health care services or primary services and need help, then I can, with your permission, speak on your behalf and be your advocate during this time. Your voice is there to be heard when you have mental health problems. As my colleague Lorna says, we can give you time to explain and listen.

I am able to see clients in their home surroundings and believe that seeing a person there can give a lot of information and helps them relax more, establishing a relationship of help. I also run, along with volunteers, the twice monthly group No Labels, at Seaton Road Methodist Church, attending and help at the pop-up shop at The Hub in Felixstowe when Lorna is not available to go.

Lesley’s working hours are Tuesday and Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm. She can be contacted on 07909 888703 or lesley@waltonpn.org.uk.
